ADVANCED PRINT PROJECTS
Over the course of this class, we were to create three projects, all adhering to a similar theme. My theme was focused on Scandinavian art, specifically Norwegian influence (e.g. rosemaling). I spanned the theme over the course of my three projects in three different creative iterations.
PROJECT 1 - Repeat Pattern
This was my first project for Advanced Print Projects. We were instructed to pick a theme to follow, and create a set of repeat patterns, including a primary print, a secondary print, and a ditsy print. We also mocked up our patterns to show them as products.
PROJECT 2 - Book Design
Our second project involved designing and screen printing a short book. We were to use two printing methods. Using screen printing and cyanotype, as well as embossing for the front cover, I created a children's book about the Northern Lights, written in Norwegian. I included aspects of rosemaling throughout my pages. The book is to be read starting on the first title page with the sun. The cat's perspective will be seen by day. At the end of this section, the reader is instructed to flip the book over, where they will then read about the cat's perspective at night.
PROJECT 3 - AI Poster
Our final project was to create a poster using an AI bot such as Midjourney or DALL-E, and subsequently using the generated art to create an original poster. We were to keep our theme from our previous two projects consistent throughout this project as well. I chose to do a square poster, with AI generated scenes of fall, winter, spring, and summer in a Scandinavian/Nordic style of art. Once we generated our posters online, we bitmapped and color separated them, making four screens: cyan, magenta, yellow, and the key screen (black)
